History of Kriya Yoga

 Yoga do Bhagavad Gita

Order now

The enlightened sages of India have discovered the spiritual science of Kriya Yoga in the distant past and it was forgotten for a long time. Lord Krishna praises the Bhagavad Gita and the sage Patanjali mentions in the Yoga Sutras. Paramahansa Yogananda said that Jesus Christ and some of his disciples, as St. John, St. Paul and others also knew this ancient meditation method.

  • Lahiri Mahasaya
  • Giri Swami Souk
  • Paramahansa Yogananda

The Kriya Yoga was lost in the Dark Ages and was reintroduced in modern times by Mahavatar Babaji. Lahiri Mahasaya, one of his disciples, was the first of the present time to openly teach Kriya Yoga. Later Babaji asked Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri (1855-1936), a disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya, who trained Paramahansa Yogananda and send him to the West to convey to the world this revealing technique soul.

Paramahansa Yogananda was chosen for its venerable lineage Gurus to bring to the West the ancient science of Kriya Yoga and it was for this purpose that he founded the Self-Realization Fellowship in 1920.

Before accessible only to the few faithful who renounced the world and took reclusive life as ascetics, the great masters of India today placed the ancient science of Kriya Yoga to reach the sincere seekers all over the world through Paramahansa Yogananda and spiritual organization he founded (SRF-YSS).

Yogananda wrote: "God blessed me before I left for the United States in 1920, Mahavatar Babaji told me that I had been chosen for this sacred mission: 'It was you who I chose to spread the message of Kriya Yoga in the West. Long I found your guru Yukteswar at a Kumbha Mela and then you said to send training. Kriya Yoga, the scientific technique of God - realization, will ultimately spread in all lands and help in harmonizing the nations through personal and transcendent perception that human beings have the Infinite Father. "

Jesus Christ and the Kriya Yoga

One of the fundamental objectives of Paramahansa Yogananda's mission was " to reveal the basic unity and harmony between the original Christianity taught by Jesus Christ and Yoga original taught by Bhagavan Krishna, and show that these principles of truth are the common scientific foundation of all true religions. "

For the general public, Jesus exposed a simple philosophy of faith, love and forgiveness. Often he used parables full of timeless moral meaning. But the close disciples he taught deeper truths that had full correspondence with profundíssimos metaphysical concepts of yogic philosophy, much older.

In his extensive commentary on the Gospels, The Second Coming of Christ: The Resurrection of the Christ Within You , Paramahansa Yogananda offers the full interpretation of the original teachings of Jesus, including the fact that he conveyed to his disciples the esoteric techniques of yogic meditation .

Meditation techniques of the path of Kriya Yoga

Paramahansa Yogananda gives a description of Kriya Yoga in Autobiography of a Yogi . The exact technique is given to students of the Lessons of Self-Realization Fellowship after a preliminary period of study and practice of the three preparatory techniques Paramahansa Yogananda taught.

Practiced together as a complete system, the techniques give the practitioner the ability to obtain the highest possible benefits and achieve the divine purpose of the ancient science of yoga .

1. Exercise Energizing: psychophysical exercises that prepare the body for meditation, developed by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1916. The regular practice of exercise provides mental and physical relaxation and develops dynamic will power. Using breath, life force and concentrated attention, the technique makes it possible to attract abundant energy consciously into the body, purifying and strengthening all its parts, one after another. Exercises of the energization, which are made in about 15 minutes, are very effective ways to eliminate stress and nervous tension. When practiced before meditating, they are of great help to enter the quietude in the state of internalized awareness.

So the yogi is able to ascend the autopista performing through the spine. After a year of practice and preparation, the student meets the requirements to request the initiation of technical Kriya Yoga and formally establish the consecrated guru-disciple relationship with Paramahansa Yogananda and his lineage of enlightened masters.
